Departure after breakfast when you wish from your hotel or apartment in Sofia. Our driver will meet you at the reception in the hotel or at your apartment. It takes 2 hours to get to the Rila Monastery, a UNESCO site where you should spend about 1 hour. Rila Monastery is the biggest active male orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, founded by the first Bulgarian hermit- Saint Ivan Rilski in the 10th century. After the big fire in 1833 the monastery was rebuilt anew, the only building which remained from the old monastery is the defense tower. In the Monastery you will have the chance to visit: The Church “Birth of the Holly Virgin” with the relics of Saint John of Rila (Ivan Rilski), the coffin of Tsar Boris III, the monastery kitchen /called Magernitsa/, Hrelyo’s defence tower, history and monastery economy museum. Then it takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach Sandanski. In Sandanski you should spend between 30 min and 1 hour. The town is a recreational centre famous for its hot mineral water sources- more than 80 springs with temperature between 42 and 80 C. The town has a very beautiful city park with more than 200 Mediterranean plant species. From Sandanski we go to Melnik and Rozhen monastery, 40 minutes drive. You have about 2-3 hours for sightseeing and lunch. Melnik is the smallest Bulgarian town with less than 300 citizens and many nice revival architecture houses. It is located in the south part of Pirin mountain among sandy pyramid shapes, well known for its winery. Rozhen monastery is a beautiful and the biggest orthodox monastery in the area located 5 km away from Melnik. After another 2 hours and 30 minutes you will back in Sofia in your hotel.
