Departure after breakfast when you wish from your hotel or apartment in Sofia. Our driver will meet you at the reception in the hotel or at your apartment. It takes about 2 hours to reach Rila Monastery. You should spend about up to 1 hour for sightseeing. Rila Monastery is the biggest active male orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, founded by the first Bulgarian hermit- Saint Ivan Rilski in the 10th century. After the big fire in 1833 the monastery was rebuilt anew, the only building which remained from the old monastery is the defense tower. In the Monastery you will have the chance to visit: The Church “Birth of the Holly Virgin” with the relics of Saint John of Rila (Ivan Rilski), the coffin of Tsar Boris III, the monastery kitchen /called Magernitsa/, Hrelyo’s defence tower, history and monastery economy museum. Then it takes about 4 hours to get to Skopje where you can visit Skopje new town with the stone bridge over Vardar river, numerous monuments dedicated to Alexander the Great, his father Philip II, Cyril and Methodius, fountain of the Mothers of Macedonia etc., Archeological museum, Opera house, Mother Teresa memorial house, Skopje Kale fortress, old town and bazaar, Mustafa Pasha mosque, Church of St. Clement of Ohrid, Holy Savior Church, Daut Pasha Hamam. You have up to 4 hours for sightseeing and lunch. After another 4 hours you will be back in Sofia.
